Weekends slip away so easily. One minute, you are wrapping up a busy week; the next, it’s Sunday night, and you are wondering where the time went.
It doesn’t have to be this way. I have rounded up 50+ fun, creative, and totally doable weekend activities for you, your family and when you want to get romantic with your boo.
Fun Weekend Activities Alone
When you are the only company you have (and need), weekends can be fun, too.
1. Brunch
Weekends are for taking yourself out to that spot you’ve been eyeing, sitting by the window and ordering something fancy.
While friends are great, solo brunches are also fun. I normally dress up for them to make the moment more special.
2. Have a Self-care day

You’ve had a long, busy week. Self-care on weekends is non-negotiable. I’m talking:
- Face masks? Yes.
- Bubble baths and long showers? Absolutely.
- Putting your phone on Do Not Disturb? Essential.
- Ordering your favorite takeout because you don’t feel like cooking? Obviously.
If you can afford the spa-level luxury, go for it. If you can’t, give yourself permission to rest, recharge and feel good at home.
3. Go for a Nature Walk
Spending time in nature is one of the best ways to recharge. Carry a hoodie and some earphones and take a walk around a city park, beach or quiet trail. Listening to the sound of nature is good for clearing your mind. I highly recommend it.
4. Attend a local workshop or class
Look up workshops happening around you: photography, cooking, dance, coding; whatever your cup is. Such classes are great for learning new skills and meeting new people.
5. Go thrifting or antiquing
Those who love antiquing feel like they are on a treasure hunt. It’s weirdly thrilling and fulfilling. Even if you walk out empty-handed, the experience itself is fun.
6. Learn a New Skill
Remember that hobby you’ve been meaning to try, but have been putting it off for God knows how long? Now’s definitely the best time to do it.
Pick up a paintbrush or camera lens and do your thing. Experiment in the kitchen or sit down to write. Hobbies bring a sense of accomplishment.
7. Go on a Movie Date
Who said you needed company to enjoy a movie date? Pick a movie (no compromises), choose a snack (you don’t have to share) and sit in a dark theater without worrying about small talk.
It’s okay if you’ve watched the show before. So long as you are having a good time.
8. Visit a Museum or Art Gallery
I love art, which makes Sunday afternoon in an art gallery or museum unsurprisingly refreshing. Art, history, and Science sparks my curiosity. It sucks me into a different world and lets me learn new things.
Good for the brain and better for the weekend.
9. Create a DIY project
Creatives, what better way to spend the weekend than creating a do-it-yourself project? Your Pinterest board has been waiting for this moment.
You could make handmade gifts, upcycle old furniture, or make some home decor. It’s satisfying to invest hours in work and have something tangible to show for it.
10. Read a new book
You know that book that’s been sitting on your shelf for months (maybe years)? Now’s the time to pick it up.
Nothing better than getting lost in a good story. It makes you feel like you’ve got your life together, even if it’s just for the weekend.
11. Visit a Bookstore
You are seriously missing out if you have not wandered in a bookstore of late.
Surround yourself with rows of stories and knowledge, flip through pages and judge books by their covers. Just be careful; you may end up buying more than you planned.
12. Enroll in an Online Course
Weekends are for resting, and leveling up too. This is your cue to sign up for that online class. It could be something practical, like learning to code, or purely for fun, like baking.
Do it from the comfort of your couch, with pajamas and snacks. Who knows, you may pick up a side hustle or new hobby by the end of it.
Fun Weekend Activities With Friends
1. Go to a concert or local event
The energy of a live event is unmatchable. Look up if a live event or local band is performing and attend. And if music isn’t your jam, swap it for whatever gets the squad hyped. Like a game night!
2. Host a Game Night
When my crew and I get together, it’s always fun and games. Card games, Monopoly, and Uno are great ways to hang out without breaking the bank.
Of course, snacks, drinks and good music are always there.
3. Have a Themed Dinner
Why have a simple dinner when you could turn it into a whole theme night?
Everyone brings a dish that fits the theme, and you get a fun, delicious night. Sushi-night or taco nights are my favorite. Bonus points for matching outfits and decor.
4. Try an Escape Room Challenge
Who’s the smartest in the group? When not playing games, an incredible way to find this out would be an escape room challenge, just like in the movies.
Search for clues, solve puzzles, and laugh way too hard while doing so. It’s teamwork, problem-solving, and chaos all in one.
5. Visit a theme park

When you want to re-live your inner child, roller coasters and junk foods are one way. No better way to spend your weekends with friends than screaming on a ride and then laughing about it for hours.
6. Go Bowling
I have to admit, I suck at bowling. But with friends like mine, I look pretty decent. Whatever the results, it’s always fun.
7. Go on a Road Trip
Pick a random point on the map and just drive. Blast music and stop at different roadside attractions. Remember, it’s about the journey, not the destination.
Fun Weekend Activities With the Family
1. Visit a Zoo
It’s always fun to see the kids freak out (in a good way) when they spot a giraffe or lion. A visit to the zoo is on top of the list of fun ways to spend the weekend with the family.
2. Go on a Family Bike Ride
Riding bikes is fun and an exercise, which makes it a must-do on weekends. Grab the helmets (safety first) and hit the road if you are lucky to have a trail nearby.
Stop for ice cream along the way to make it even more fun for the kids.
3. Go Camping
Sunday fireside with the family is a nice way to wrap up the weekend. Tell stories and roast marshmallows outside your tents. Don’t forget the bug spray and flashlights. And s’mores. Always s’mores.
4. Attend a Sports Event
Some families bond through camping, others through the game. Attending a family event is always a blast.
I love the energy of a live game, and the kids love the snacks. We wear the team colors, grab some hot dogs on the way, and get ready to cheer and shout.
Alternatively, you could watch it from home. Has almost the same effect.
5. Family Bbq
Dads are in charge of the grill—that’s a universal rule. Everyone else assembles the burgers, hot dogs, kebabs, veggies, and sauces.
Bring out the ball and set up an outdoor playlist, and you have a perfect day.
6. Board Game or Puzzle Night
I’m incredible at Scrabble but not so good at Monopoly. Game nights are always full of laughs and friendly rivalries. It’s okay if you are not into games; you could work on a massive puzzle as you munch on snacks.
7. Watch a Family Movie

Saturday nights are for converting the living room to a mini-theater. Pile up the pillows and blankets, let the kids pick a movie they love and dim the lights.
Only a few things are as wholesome as watching a family movie together, even if it’s watching Disney movies as an adult.
8. Cooking a Meal Together
Instead of just serving dinner, make cooking part of the fun.
Pick a recipe together, like a pasta dish or homemade pizza, and assign everyone a role. The little ones can stir or sprinkle cheese. It’s way more fun to eat what you’ve made together.
Fun Weekend Activities With a Lover
No judgement if Netflix and chill is your thing, but quality time with your partner should be more than that.
1. Watch the Sunset
Sometimes, the most romantic moments are the simplest, like watching the sunset. There’s something about it that makes it feel like a movie.
Find a scenic spot, like a rooftop, the beach, or even the hood of your car, and just be present together. The future you will cherish such moments.
2. Go on a Staycation
Sometimes, you need a change of scenery without the hassle of long drives or flights. It’s good for your health and pockets, too. Lounge in fluffy robes and pretend you’re the rich power couple you were meant to be, even if just for the weekend.
3. Romantic Picnic
What I love about romantic picnics is that they are easy to pull off and, when done right, can feel extra special.
All it takes is a quiet spot, some snacks, and a blanket spread, and you can enjoy each other’s company.
4. Cooking or Dance Class

You can be that couple in cooking classes who can’t stop giggling and feeding each other. Or even a dancing class. You don’t have to be good at it; it’s about the experience.
If you can’t go out, set up your own at home. YouTube has amazing dance and cooking tutorials.
5. Visit an Art Exhibit
Solo art exhibits are great, but going with a partner is even better. It’s a good excuse to dress up and take #powercouple photos together.
6. Couples Massage
When life gets stressful, take a moment to relax. Book a spa session for you and your partner, and let the professionals work their magic. At the end of the day, you both walk out feeling refreshed and extra cuddly.
7. Create a Bucket List Together
Weekends are for sitting with your significant other and listing everything you want to do together. This does two things. It brings you closer and gives you something exciting to look forward to together.
8. ‘Yes Day’ for Each Other
The rule of the game is you can’t say no. Each of you gets to make requests (within reason, of course), and the other person has to say yes.
Want to wear matching outfits for the day? Yes. Want to have a stroll around the town? Yes. Want to have a fancy dinner? Absolutely yes.
Make Every Weekend Count
Lots of stuff to try out, right? The next time Friday rolls around, you’ll have a long weekend to look forward to. What’s more, it sets you up for a productive week ahead.
Which of these activities are you trying first?
